In My 30s and Still Sulking Over a Birthday
At least I can channel it into a marketing lesson.
My birthday was on Saturday, August 23rd, and yes, I’m still sulking that it’s over 😢
I thought being in my 30s would make me immune to the birthday blues. Spoiler: it doesn’t. For one glorious day, I was showered with love, emojis, and free desserts. Then the texts stopped, the balloons started drooping, and all I had left was a questionable slice of cake in the fridge and the reminder that Monday doesn’t care about your special day.
Sound familiar? That’s exactly what happens in marketing after a big campaign. You spend weeks hyping it up, building graphics, blasting emails, and making sure every pixel is perfect. The campaign goes live, and boom 🎉 confetti moment 🎉. People are clicking, liking, maybe even buying. It feels like a party.
And then? Crickets. The party’s over, the buzz is gone, and your campaign is sitting there like the sad balloon in the corner.
Here’s the thing: the “day after” is where the real marketing magic happens. It’s not about pulling off the big splash. It’s about what you do once the spotlight dims.
How to Beat the Post-Campaign Slump (and the Post-Birthday Blues):
Send a thoughtful follow-up. Like a thank-you text, but with better click-through rates.
Repurpose the content. That gorgeous video? Chop it into snackable clips. That blog? Turn it into social posts. Milk it like leftover cake.
Nurture the almost-buyers. The ones who hovered but didn’t hit “buy” are your low-hanging fruit.
Extend the celebration. A cheeky “last chance” promo keeps the lights on a little longer.
Shift the spotlight. Use the momentum to tee up your next big thing so you’re never stuck staring at deflated balloons.
Unfortunately birthdays only last a day, but campaigns don’t have to. With the right plan, you can keep the party going long after the candles are blown out.
And if anyone feels like keeping my birthday going, I’ll happily accept belated gifts in the form of coffee and cake.

equal parts fun and awkward human pretzel factory.
4.
